This is a book review. It may not be daily.

HELLO PEOPLE! It’s me, Gabriel [LAST NAME REDACTED] here. I am so excited to release my debut blog reviewing this book.

Titled One Crazy Summer, this book is certainly a showstopper. It follows the plot of three girls, names Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern. In this book, the three girls go on a trip to Oakland to meet their long lost mother, Cecile, who left them for a reason I cannot say for fear of spoilers. However, when they get to Oakland, their mother is not what they were expecting.

This book is very… interesting. Although this book isn’t exactly my type of thing, my thing being sci-fi and fantasy books, One Crazy Summer hooks you in and doesn’t let you go.

Trying not to spoil it, I say that the book is pretty solid with its characters, story, and interesting plot. With spoilers in mind, however…

(WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!)

The book begins with Delphine (main character), Vonetta and Fern (slightly less important main characters) going on an airplane to Oakland to meet their biological mother, Cecile. When you open the book, the writing style is unique and separates itself from other books. The beginning lets you know automatically that Delphine is not the kind of person to mess around, and that she is not excited to meet her mother. When they get to her house (which is covered in green stucco) Delphine already knows that her mother is crazy. She acts all secluded and weird, like a weird uncle on a Friday morning who looks like at any moment he could set a fire. Or catch fire. Except this one is female. And a mother. She sends Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern out on their own on the street in Oakland.  The book really highlights how Delphine has a lot of fear but does her best not to show any of it, and it feelsa lot like a mirror book when you really understand what she’s saying.

Nothing seems right with Cecile, and it shows from the environment and feel of the house that the author portrays.

Cecile is a poet working for the Black Panthers, a nice, calm, caring group of people who stand for black rights. Delphine would never have associated with the Black Panthers before as too much danger would be risked, but now that she is in this new environment, she’s thinking, “why not?”

Still, Delphine, Vonetta and Fern seem to adopt and be assimilated into the new environment that the Black Panthers provide. They learn a lot of things along the way of their journey, and it gets really challenging eventually, they leave Oakland. Cecile is less crazy by the end. Everything is great.

AND THEN CAME THE SEQUEL—

Really though, this book is great. It keeps you in a state of suspense, like a horror movie.

Overall, this book is an 8/10. The writing is solid, the characters are fleshed out, and sure, the book might be a little boring because there’s no talking dragons, but the book is great.

THAT IS MY FIRST MAYBE DAILY BOOK REVIEW! YAAAYAYYAYAYAYYAYYAYAYAYAYAYAY-
